Recently, Jimmy Butler was asked about whether he is the best player in the world by Taylor Rooks. Butler seemed to imply that he is the best, but noted that basketball is a “team game”.

“Luckily, this is a team game. And I realize that I need my teammates to win, and I’ll always rely on my teammates and I’ll always be grateful for my teammates and I’ll always use my teammates to make sure we win games. But as far as being the best basketball player in the world goes? One-on-one? I’m taking my chances,” Butler claimed.

Though most people will disagree with Jimmy Butler saying he is the best player in the league, he has every right to feel that way. He is just coming off a Finals appearance with a squad that features no other superstar, and a large portion of the 2022-23 Heat were undrafted players. The only thing that will convince the public that Jimmy Butler is the best in the league is a championship, however, and we’ll see if he can win one this season.

This past season, Jimmy Butler averaged 22.9 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 5.3 assists per game for the Miami Heat. Though his regular season stats are comparable to All-Star-level players, it is widely agreed that Butler elevates himself to a superstar level in the postseason.

Jimmy Butler Has Been Compared To Kobe Bryant In Terms Of Mentality

There is no doubt that Jimmy Butler has a killer mentality, and he has consistently done more with less during his time on the Heat. In fact, Andre Iguodala claimed that Jimmy Butler is the closest he’s seen to Kobe Bryant in terms of mentality.

“He’s probably the closest that I’ve seen to Kobe Bryant with that mentality of just man, Jimmy will figure out a way for us to win,” Iguodala added. “I’ve never seen a will like that. I’m like this dude got a Kobe Bryant will. A will to him to win.”

Butler is definitely one of those players that contribute everywhere on the court to help his team win. He is clearly one of the best all-around players in the NBA, and drives winning at a high level.

Jimmy Butler Might Struggle To Lead The Heat To The Finals This Year

There are a lot of teams in the Eastern Conference that got better. The Milwaukee Bucks added Damian Lillard, while the Boston Celtics acquired Jrue Holiday. Though Jimmy Butler managed to help the Heat beat both those teams in the 2023 playoffs, it will certainly be a lot harder now.

With that being said, the Heat should be a competitive team. They still have Butler, Bam Adebayo, and Tyler Herro on the roster, so the talent is there. Though they aren’t in the upper echelon of the East, they are certainly a dark horse team to get out of the conference.

We will see how well the Miami Heat play next season. With Jimmy Butler present, they will always be contenders, and there is even a chance they can win a championship with their current roster.
