The Philadelphia 76ers have endured a complex 2022-23 NBA season, although they appear to be finding their rhythm right now. Following a win over the defending champions Golden State Warriors on Friday, the Sixers rank 5th in the Eastern Conference standings with a 16-12 record.

They had to fight hard to reach this level after a tumultuous start to the campaign. Still, things haven’t been easy for them, who have dealt with injuries and other issues in the past couple of weeks. James Harden and Joel Embiid are back, and the team seems to be reaching its best level.

However, they’re still missing a couple of pieces that will be crucial for their success this season. The Sixers have gotten huge wins even without a big part of their players, but it’s clear that they need everybody healthy to compete for the NBA championship.

Joel Embiid Misses Tyrese Maxey On The Court

Joel Embiid is well aware of this and recently admitted that the team is trying to do the best they can do while their best player is out. To many, Embiid is not only the best player on the Sixers but one of the 10 best players in the NBA. Well, he’s really high on one of his teammates, Tyrese Maxey.

“It’s next-man-up mentality,” said Embiid, via Clutch Points. “Obviously, we’re missing our best player in Tyrese.”

He says that everybody on the team has done their part, which is why they’ve found success during the first two months of competition.

“Tobias [Harris] has been great this year,” Embiid said. “He’s doing his thing, he’s been efficient defensively, he’s been great. When you are missing these types of guys it’s hard but I think we got enough talent. Guys like Shake [Milton], Matisse [Thybulle], they’ve been playing really well. Can’t forget about De’Anthony [Melton], he’s been amazing.”

The Philadelphia 76ers are still considered a threat in the East, but seeing how things are going right now, they will need their Big 3 at the best level to compete against the likes of the Boston Celtics, Milwaukee Bucks, Cleveland Cavaliers, and Brooklyn Nets. They know this season is important for their championship aspirations, and another early playoff exit will be a huge disappointment.
