The current NBA is undoubtedly too soft in comparison to how the league was during the 80s or the 90s. At the time, players used to regularly get into brawls and try to dominate each other via physical battles. Evidently, the top players in the league were targeted the most.

The best example of it was when the Detroit Pistons decided to invent ‘Jordan Rules’ to stop Michael Jordan during playoffs. The only thing that the ‘Bad Boys’ Pistons wanted to do was to stop MJ in his track regardless of the means. Evidently, the Pistons’ players such as Isiah Thomas, John Salley, Joe Dumars, and more became hated around the league.

Even though that era of the Pistons is over, the members of that team are still hated by not only fans but even current NBA players.

John Salley On Getting Hated For Being A Member Of The Detroit Pistons

Since retiring from the NBA, John Salley has become a consistent face in the media. The former NBA star tends to share a lot of stories during his playing days or simply provides his thoughts on what’s happening in the league right now.

Salley recently made an appearance for an interview on VladTV. During the interview, Salley talked about how players like LeBron James and Allen Iverson still hate him for being a part of the Detroit Pistons, who went up against Michael Jordan. The interview first told him about Iverson’s point of view; Salley just agreed to it and later told a similar thing about James.

I know it. I know it. … Give you an example. I’m a huge LeBron fan and everytime I see LeBron he’s like this [glares] looking at me like what’s up? Not that I’m gonna do anything and I know it’s nothing against anything I’ve ever done to LeBron. It’s LeBron growing up picking what side he wanted to be on. It doesn’t make me a difference because once guys get to know me they realize this was just my job.”

There have been many times when Iverson has openly praised Mike, even calling him the GOAT. So there is no way he could be kind to someone who tried to hurt Jordan, albeit for whatever reason.

The same can be said for James. While many debate about who is the better player between him and Jordan, the Los Angeles Lakers superstar had admitted wanting to be like him when he growing up. At the end of the day, Salley may be a good person off the court, but most will judge him for his time with the Detroit Pistons.
