- John Wall thinks Kawhi Leonard being compared to Michael Jordan makes sense
- Both players have shown proficiency in midrange scoring
- Kawhi Leonard is less athletic but more methodical than Michael Jordan
Superstar Kawhi Leonard is considered one of the best players in the league when he’s healthy, and there’s no doubt that Leonard is the face of the Los Angeles Clippers. Many view him as one of the most complete players in the game, and there is almost nothing that Leonard can’t do on the court.
One of the areas that Kawhi Leonard excels in is scoring from the midrange area, and he shot a blistering 49.2% from there this season. Leonard’s midrange ability and overall game have previously earned him comparisons to legend Michael Jordan. Recently, John Wall got real on those comparisons, giving a lot of reasons as to why they make sense.
“Oh yeah. The midrange is crazy. That s— is amazing! Defensively, how he is just to see him (and) how he gets locked in, it’s like, ‘I want to be great.’ Having a guy like that, we know that we can go to at any moment of time when times get hard is like, OK, you really can’t stop him. He can only stop himself. And that’s how you look at Mike. But Mike was more explosive. Kawhi is more methodical with more of a simple basic game, and he gets to his spots.”
Michael Jordan comparisons to Kawhi Leonard make a lot of sense notes John Wall.

There is no doubt that Kawhi Leonard is a two-way player, just like Michael Jordan was, with both players both being superstars that won the DPOY award for their elite perimeter defense. However, as Wall notes, Jordan was more athletic than Leonard, which is why Leonard has more of a “basic game”.
This past season, Kawhi Leonard averaged 23.8 PPG, 6.5 RPG, and 3.9 APG for the Los Angeles Clippers while shooting 41.6% from 3PT range. If he can stay healthy, the Clippers are a team that can contend for the championship, and hopefully, they can get far in the playoffs next season.
Kawhi Leonard Is Unlikely To Get A Four-Year Extension From The Los Angeles Clippers
Throughout his time with the Los Angeles Clippers, Kawhi Leonard has frequently dealt with injuries. That has often affected the team, and they have not managed to win a championship during his tenure. It was recently reported that Kawhi Leonard is unlikely to get a four-year extension from the team, and that makes his future interesting.
Kawhi Leonard could become a free agent at the end of the 2023-24 season if he declines his $45.6 million player option. If he doesn’t get a long-term extension from the Clippers, then perhaps he’ll go to another franchise that is willing to give him one. We will see what ends up happening in the future.
