This was Jonathan Kuminga’s sophomore season in the NBA, and it wasn’t much different from his rookie season. His averages increased only marginally, although he did play more minutes, by the playoffs, he was reportedly frustrated with his role.

Young players can sometimes get frustrated and impatient if things don’t immediately work out for them in the NBA. And it seems that’s what has happened to Jonathan Kuminga, with reports suggesting that he’s looking to showcase his talents to all NBA teams during this offseason.

“I’m told Jonathan Kuminga aims to split his off-season time in Miami, NYC, and LA,” tweeted reporter Jason Dumas. “He wants to participate in a lot of NBA open runs and showcase to people around the league what he can do on the court.”

The offseason is a time for players to take some time off and work on their craft but Jonathan Kuminga has decided he didn’t play enough during the season. Kuminga is still a highly-rated talent in the league, although his playoff minutes and averages have looked pretty bad in his first two seasons.

In any case, this might be something for the Golden State Warriors to worry about and look into. Jonathan Kuminga very much has a huge ceiling and could be big for them someday. But in case they decide to retool around Stephen Curry, Kuminga will make an excellent trade asset, and his showcasing his talent could only be a big help for them.

Jonathan Kuminga Has Not Hidden His Frustrations

Kuminga’s lack of playing time is an issue that he has spoken about quite a bit. Stephen Curry’s epic speech before Game 7 in the first round was also reportedly meant for the unhappy Kuminga among others. And according to reports, he has made it clear that if things don’t change he doesn’t want to stay with the franchise

“The Warriors and Kuminga’s representatives are expected to discuss his future this offseason, league sources say. Golden State will need to decide whether Kuminga will receive a full-time role moving forward, and, if not, league sources say the No. 7 pick in the 2021 NBA Draft will want to be somewhere he can play more.”

The Golden State Warriors have already given up on their No. 2 overall pick from the 2020 draft, James Wiseman. If they aren’t able to keep Kuminga and he does leave, it will be a big hit to their young core. Hopefully, Kuminga can prove himself and take the next step next season after all the work he puts in during the summer.
