Josh Hart thinks the Los Angeles Clippers and the Brooklyn Nets can have all the success in the world, but they still won’t win over their cities. On the latest episode of the Roommates Show, Hart stated that the Clippers and the Nets will always play second fiddle to the Los Angeles Lakers and the New York Knicks, respectively

“That (Los Angeles) will never be a Clipper town, ever,” Hart said on the Roommates Show. “Not even if they win, four, five chips. That’s so deeply rooted in purple and gold bruh, that’s not changing.”

Hart says you notice a big difference when you play the Lakers and the Clippers in Los Angeles.

“Now, you do the West Coast trip, you play Lakers and Clippers,” Hart continued. “The energy and the vibe of the Clipper games and the Lakers game, you would think it’s a different arena. That’s like New York, man. Ain’t nobody rocking with Brooklyn… I had to talk about our guy Squidward over there.”

In case you missed it, Hart had hilariously said that Mikal Bridges is like Squidward in the SpongeBob meme. Bridges and the Nets have struggled this season and he has had to watch Hart and Jalen Brunson, his former Villanova teammates, have a blast while playing for the Knicks.

As for what Hart said about the Clippers and Nets, he was pretty much on point. Los Angeles, in particular, will forever be a Laker town and nothing will change that.

From 2011-12 to 2022-23, the Clippers had a 37-9 record against the Lakers. They were by far the best team in Los Angeles for nearly a decade, but it didn’t matter. Perhaps, had the Clippers managed to win a title in that time, they might have been able to win over some portions, but that’s about it.

The Clippers are finally at least going to be playing in a separate arena from the Lakers next season. They’ll be playing home games at the Intuit Dome and owner Steve Ballmer stated the Clippers needed to step out of the Lakers’ shadow when speaking about the new arena.

As for the Nets, it seemed like we witnessed the dawn of a new era in New York when Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant rejected the Knicks and joined them in free agency in 2019. That Irving-Durant era ended up being a massive disappointment, however, and that coupled with the Knicks’ recent resurgence has left the Nets in the dust.

Josh Hart has played his part in that resurgence, which sees the Knicks at third in the East with a 44-28 record. The 29-year-old is averaging 8.9 points, 8.1 rebounds, 3.9 assists, 0.9 steals, and 0.3 blocks per game in 2023-24.

Paul George Said Los Angeles Is A Lakers Town

Even Clippers players know that their team plays second fiddle to their rivals, as Paul George admitted that Los Angeles is a Lakers town.

“It’s a Lakers town and he’s the biggest Lakers fan over there… everybody knows I’m a SoCal kid so it’s funny to me if I’m somewhere, they’re like, ‘You should be a Laker,’ or, ‘Come to LA.’ Like we all LA at this point just support LA.”

“It was when I first got traded and I went to Universal [Studios] and that was the first time I heard ‘come to the Lakers!’ I was like, ‘I’m in LA that’s not good enough?'”

Earlier this season, George also stated he wanted to give Clippers fans ammo to talk trash to Lakers nation. Well, it was all going great for them just a few months ago, but the Clippers are now in a bit of a rut. Unless they steady the ship soon, another disappointing end to the season might be on the cards.
