Amid an impressive hot streak, the Los Angeles Clippers are starting to finally look like the team that has four Hall of Famers on the roster. And while his team has accomplished nothing yet, Paul George says his only goal is to break the cycle of losing and give the fans something to brag about.

“Those fans that have stayed and are by our side, those are the ones I want to give back to,” said George via Yahoo Sports. “At least give them an opportunity to go at Lakers fans with some sort of trash talk.”

The Clippers have been a franchise of no renown for much of their existence, but they have a chance to change that with the combined efforts of Kawhi, Paul George, Russell Westbrook, and James Harden.

“At the end of the day, both of us are represented in L.A. and the Lakers have been successful. They have had winning coaches through championships, but that’s something that we’re trying to build with the Clippers.”

Who Runs LA?

Los Angeles has two teams in most major sports leagues, including the NBA. For basketball, the Lakers have been the pride and joy of the city for decades now thanks to a history of glitz, glamour, and success that includes stars like Wilt Chamberlain, Magic Johnson, and Kobe Bryant. Meanwhile, the Clippers have always been considered an afterthought in the NBA and they’ve achieved very little in their history compared to 17 Lakers championships. Recently, while nobody can argue the Clippers have not been better in the regular season, the Lakers are still the more proven franchise and their following is at another level.

Only recently have the Clippers been a successful team, but they still have nothing to show for their efforts after years of hopeful seasons with Chis Paul, and now Kawhi Leonard, leading the show. To change the status quo in Los Angeles, and give some validity to the outnumbered Clippers fans, they’ll have to beat the Lakers at their own game by winning when it matters the most (playoffs). Even then, they’d still be 16 titles behind in the trophy count.

Can Clippers Make A Run?

In their latest attempt to build a championship team, the Clippers pulled the trigger on a trade for James Harden, who got off to a rocky start with the ball club. Following an ugly losing streak, however, the Clippers are starting to show some signs of life. Their latest win over the Kings on Tuesday put them at 13-10 on the season, falling just .5 games back from the Lakers for the 6th seed in the West. It remains to be seen if the Clips can keep up this winning pace, but they are looking much better as a unit since Russell Westbrook was moved to the bench earlier this season.

The biggest factor for the Clippers this season is Kawhi Leonard. When healthy, he’s easily one of the five best players in the world but that version of Kawhi has been missing this year and until the Clippers see that guy, they will never be at their peak potential. But if he’s going strong, and Paul George is in his rhythm, it could make history for this Clippers franchise and give their fans something to cheer about after all these years of failure.
