Former NBA champion JR Smith shocked the league when he made his decision to enroll in college to pursue the sport of golf on a collegiate level. Smith committed himself to North Carolina A&T as the college he would represent. Aside from being an athlete, Smith returned to college in order to complete his education. And recently, it was revealed that Smith had completed his first year of college with a 4.0 GPA.

JR Smith revealed recently on Twitter that he was terrified to return to college. Smith noted that the prospect of returning to college after walking away from his basketball career and attempting to get his degree was frightening to him. On top of that, Smith revealed that coping with his disability and trying to overcome that was something he wasn’t sure he could do, but now that he has, he feels more powerful than ever.

Smith should be commended for making the choice to go back to college. Not only because it was his athletic prowess in a different sport (golf) that got him this opportunity, but he has also dedicated himself to his academics and put his best foot forward to try and get his degree. Not a lot of people would have the courage to do what Smith chose to do, especially at this stage in his career when he is set for life.

Smith’s journey back to college has been well documented over the last few months, mostly by himself. And fans will be looking forward to taking this journey with him, as he looks to finish his college degree and pursue golf at a high level in North Carolina.
