- Julius Erving believes Tim Duncan should be in the conversation on every all-time list of greatest players
- Duncan won five championships with the San Antonio Spurs
- He is widely regarded as the greatest power forward ever
Tim Duncan is one of the greatest players in NBA history and is widely viewed as the greatest power forward ever. Hall of Famer Julius Erving is a big admirer of Duncan and feels he should be in the conversation when making any all-time list of great players.
“When you start doing all-time players and picking your top five, your top 10, or your top 15 whatever, Tim Duncan needs to show up in that conversation.”

The top five might be a bit much, but Duncan certainly should be in the conversation when it comes to the top 10.
In 19 seasons with the San Antonio Spurs, he averaged 19.0 points, 10.8 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 0.7 steals, and 2.2 blocks per game. Duncan won five championships, three Finals MVPs, and two MVPs along the way.
He was voted into one of the All-NBA teams on 15 occasions, which is tied for second in NBA history. Despite surprisingly never winning Defensive Player of the Year, Duncan did make one of the All-Defensive teams 15 times in his career, which is an NBA record.
He just has an incredible resume and deserves all the respect in the world.
Julius Erving Excluded Tim Duncan From His List Of The Top 10 Players Of All Time
What is weird about Erving saying this about Duncan, though, is that just last month, he excluded Duncan from his top 10 list. Erving’s wild list of his 10 greatest players didn’t have the likes of LeBron James or Kobe Bryant either.
Interestingly, he mentioned that he has debates with his son about Duncan’s placement. Erving had Karl Malone in his top 10 and stated that Duncan would not rank above him.
Erving is certainly one of the greatest players the game has ever seen, but his opinions do seem to change with greater regularity these days. At this point, it wouldn’t be very surprising if his opinion of Duncan flips the next time he talks about him.
