The New York Knicks suffered an upset loss to the Toronto Raptors last night. It seemed like the entirety of the Knicks’ squad had an off night, as they lost to a much weaker Raptors side. Before the game, Julius Randle’s son Kyden had a bold prediction about his dad.

Kyden was recorded on camera by his mom, where he said “my dad’s getting 50 points tonight” (3rd slide). It was a truly adorable moment, as Kyden has provided over the last year or so. But unfortunately, that didn’t happen for Randle, or for anyone on the Knicks.

Randle ended the game with 22 points, less than half of what his son predicted. He also had 9 assists and 9 rebounds, coming close to notching a triple-double. He and RJ Barrett led the Knicks in scoring but weren’t able to close the deal for them against the Raptors.

Kyden went viral last season, as a cute video of him upset after the Knicks’ loss to the Brooklyn Nets made it to the internet. Since then, Kyden has been part of some great moments captured online, including when he presented his dad with the NBA’s Most Improved Player trophy last season.

Going back to the Knicks, Randle and company will be hoping that this was just a blip on the radar. Prior to this game, the Knicks had one of the best records in the NBA. When they went 4-1 to start the season, Knicks fans were thrilled, even proclaiming them the best team in the East.

This loss will be a careful reminder for them that anything can happen on a given night in the NBA. So they must not take any game for granted, and play their absolute hardest. Tom Thibodeau will be hoping to instill this lesson in the squad as they prepare for their next game against the Indiana Pacers.
