Since being drafted 1st in 2015, Karl-Anthony Towns has emerged as one of the brightest and most talented young bigs in the NBA.

On the court, he brings many things to the table, but none may be more valuable than his perimeter shooting.

Over six seasons in the league, Towns has proven to be an extraordinary shooter. In fact, according to the young star himself, he’s the greatest shooting big man ever.

“I’m the greatest big man shooter of all time. That’s a fact,” Towns said. “You can see the stats. I ain’t got to play like no one else. Everyone trying to find themselves to be the second version of me when I’m the first version. I don’t got to be the second version of someone else. I’m already an original. I don’t have to be a duplicate of someone else.”

Towns has hit nearly 700 threes over his career so far and is up to 39.7% efficiency. For reference, Dirk Nowitzki converted at a 38 percent clip on fewer attempts per game. At a glance, Towns’ claim does hold some weight.

For Wolves coach Chris Finch, Towns actually reminds him of Nikola Jokic.

“In terms of skillset, and game, and everything they can do. They’re so, so similar. They’re both these ultra-skilled bigs who can pass, shoot, dribble. Create for their teammates, score in the post. Score at all ranges,” said Finch.

“I think KAT has been All-NBA a couple of years ago, his last two seasons have been hijacked for injuries and other well-documented situations with his family. I think they’re extremely similar.”

Unfortunately, KAT’s impressive shooting stroke hasn’t translated into much success for the Timberwolves. Over the past few years, Minnesota has consistently been one of the worst teams in the league.

Hopefully, with more time, the front office can build something truly special and Towns can prove once and for all that he’s capable of leading a contending team.
