Karl-Anthony Towns Says Timberwolves Have No Identity

Hoops Habit

At 2-0, the Minnesota Timberwolves are off to a decent start to this new season. KAT and D’Lo are finally healthy, head coach Chris Finch has the team’s ear, and Anthony Edwards is on track for his best campaign yet.

But just how high are expectations for the Wolves this season, and do they have a chance to make some noise in the playoffs?

Regardless of the other factors, the Wolves will have to forge an identity, which KAT says they have yet to do.

“When you’re building an identity, obviously we don’t have one, to be very fairly honest in the NBA,” Towns told The Athletic. “But if you want to build one, it’s going to take some time where you’re going to have to play your game even when people don’t understand how we’re playing.”

“You try to be physical defensively, especially, so if we’re going to get a little foul here and there over physicality and building our identity and our culture, then that has to be what it is,” he continued.

As a mostly young team still trying to figure things out, it’s no surprise that they are still in the process of discovering who they are.

With some more time and practice, they could get there soon.

“I think probably develop a little bit more of a complete package for Anthony [Edwards]. So he’s kind of not like going through the game looking for opportunities,” Finch told Star Tribune of Timberwolves’ offensive approach this season. “Maybe direct the ball more to him.”

“Opportunities to post D’Angelo [Russell] for his playmaking down ther,” he added. “Then continue to experiment with [Towns]. Just move him around and continue to play him more like a guard as well as a big. When you have a guy like that, it’s a lot of fun.”

The Wolves finished 13th in the West last season with a 23-49 record.

They’re hoping for a better performance this season, but it’s clear they still have some things to figure out.
