Big man Victor Wembanyama is one of the highest-ceiling players in the NBA, and there’s no doubt that many believe he has superstar potential. He ended up going No. 1 to the San Antonio Spurs in the 2023 NBA Draft, and many believe that this is the right destination for him to reach his potential. Given the hype around Victor Wembanyama, it is quite likely that a number of players will try to target him, to see if he’s truly as good as what has been said. However, it seems as though Wembanyama’s teammates will not let people bully him.

Recently, forward Keldon Johnson admitted that there will be players who seek to “bully” Wembanyama, but admitted that he “will be there” if that happens.

“Of course, there are going to be some people who want to try him this year, try to bully him. We got his back… If I feel like there is any situation they are trying to go after him, I will be there.”

It is good to see that San Antonio Spurs players have Victor Wembanyama’s back in any situation. This is a sign of a good locker room environment, and hopefully, there won’t be too many situations where Johnson has to step in against the Spurs’ opponents.

This past season, Keldon Johnson averaged 22.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 2.9 assists per game. He is clearly one of the best players on the roster, and it’ll be interesting to see how he fits in around Victor Wembanyama.

Victor Wembanyama Wants To Be Great

There is no doubt that throughout NBA history, there have been talented players who did not have the innate desire and drive to be legends of the game. It seems as though that is not the case with Victor Wembanyama however, as Spurs forward Jeremy Sochan said that Wembanyama is “hungry” when sharing his first impression of the big man.

“I think he is mature for his age. He wants to learn. He reads a lot, which is really cool. He is smart. He knows not to get distracted and that is why he is so good. I love how much he wants it. He’s hungry. He wants to win. He’s a team player, and he wants to win together. It’s super exciting to have the No. 1 pick. It speeds things up. Hopefully, we all stay healthy. We are going to work hard to play as a team, and I think we are going to be pretty good.”

There’s no doubt that drive and hard work go a long way when it comes to a player maximizing their abilities and reaching their potential. Wembanyama is both talented and has the desire to be great, and we’ll see just how far he can go with the Spurs’ help.

Victor Wembanyama Projects To Be An Elite Defensive Player On Day One

As of right now, it is fair to say that Victor Wembanyama will take some time to develop on the offensive end. However, an area where he can immediately make an impact is defense.

The Spurs are planning to play Wembanyama at power forward, which means that he will have a size advantage over most players at the position. His length and size will allow him to be a solid shot blocker and rebounder, and he’s mobile enough to keep up with athletic bigs.

Hopefully, we see Victor Wembanyama have a great rookie season. He can definitely win the Rookie of the Year award based on his defense alone, and we’ll see what happens in the future.
