San Antonio Spurs forward Jeremy Sochan has recently shared his first impressions of Victor Wembanyama when speaking to Bryan Kalbrosky of For The Win. Sochan noted that Wembanyama is “hungry” and “wants to win”, and those are definitely things Spurs fans will love to hear.

“I think he is mature for his age. He wants to learn. He reads a lot, which is really cool. He is smart. He knows not to get distracted and that is why he is so good. I love how much he wants it. He’s hungry. He wants to win. He’s a team player, and he wants to win together. It’s super exciting to have the No. 1 pick. It speeds things up. Hopefully, we all stay healthy. We are going to work hard to play as a team, and I think we are going to be pretty good.”

There is no doubt that the San Antonio Spurs have a solid young squad around Victor Wembanyama, including Jeremy Sochan himself, as well as players like Devin Vassell and Keldon Johnson. Hopefully, they have a solid developmental year, and it’ll be interesting to see if they can make the play-in tournament.

Victor Wembanyama has already shown some solid flashes during the Summer League, averaging 18.0 points, 10.0 rebounds, and 4.0 blocks in two games for the San Antonio Spurs. Defense will clearly not be an issue for him, and it is quite possible that he’ll make an All-Defensive team this season.

Victor Wembanyama Landed In The Perfect Situation For His Development

There is no doubt that a player’s development is frequently influenced by the franchise that they land on. That is why, some people like Tracy McGrady have suggested that Victor Wembanyama is in the perfect situation with the Spurs.

The San Antonio Spurs have a proven track record of development, having helped many players such as Tony Parker and Dejounte Murray become All-Star-level contributors. The foundation of their dynastic run in the 2000s was also built on Tim Duncan, and perhaps Gregg Popovich can help Victor Wembanyama become a superstar in the league as well.

Some People Believe Victor Wembanyama Can Become The GOAT

As of right now, Victor Wembanyama is already entering the league with high expectations. In fact, there have been some suggestions that Wembanyama can finish his career as one of the all-time greats in this game. Former Spurs star Sean Elliot even believes that Wembanyama can become the GOAT.

Though it is hard to see any incoming player surpassing LeBron James or Michael Jordan, Victor Wembanyama’s talent is undeniable. Hopefully, he reaches his potential, as he can become a truly generational player.
