With just a single game left in their season, the Los Angeles Lakers have nothing left to play for. LeBron James, Anthony Davis, and Carmelo Anthony have already been shut down for the season.
Now, ESPN’s Kendrick Perkins is ready to finally shut down all future conversations about them.
As he said on a segment of First Take, he’s tired of talking about the Purple and Gold, who could end the season 18 games under .500.
“I’m getting tired of talking about the Lakers. They’re 18 games under .500. Now it’s time to move on. It’s time to talk about other teams that need our attention. They are one of the biggest, if not the biggest disappointments in NBA history. Let them sit back and think about what they did wrong, go in timeout and please let’s just stop. I’m just sick of the Lakers, sick of the Lakers. I’m tired of it.”
There isn’t much more to be said about the Lakers at this point. Blame has already been cast on everybody involved and the critics have been clowning and trolling the team since early on in the season.
Before they were even eliminated from play-in contention, Perkins expressed what an utter disappointment the team has been.
“I cannot let the Lakers off the hook,” said Perkins. “I will not let the Lakers off the hook. And I know I been telling y’all I’m tired of talking about them, and I really am, but the fact of the matter is this – if the Lakers, forget the title, forget the title run, being the title contender, forget making noise in the playoffs – if the Lakers miss the playoffs, which they have a strong possibility of doing, they could be one of the biggest disappointments in NBA history. Period. It’s no way around it.”
For L.A., all that’s left to do is look ahead. With the clock ticking on LeBron James, they don’t have the time to waste another year of his talent.
This summer, we can expect some major moves that could include Westbrook or even Anthony Davis. No matter what they are able to do, there is no question that something has to change.
Until then, don’t be surprised if Perkins (and others in the industry) take a small hiatus from mentioning the 17x Champs.
