Kenny Smith is on the crew of arguably the most beloved basketball show on television, Inside The NBA. He’s also an author, and when talking about the book he wrote in an interview, he revealed a wild tip that a psychologist once told him about.
“I met a psychologist on a plane once,” Kenny Smith said. “And so she’s up and I’m tired as hell. She’s like, ‘You’re Kenny Smith.’ I’m like, ‘Yeah, nice to meet you.’ She’s like, ‘Yeah I love your show.’ I’m like, ‘What do you do?’
“She said, ‘I’m a psychologist.’ So I’m thinking she’s going to tell me about my life. She says, ‘Don’t go to sleep on this flight.’ I’m like, ‘Man, I’m exhausted.’ She said, ‘Try this for me.’
“She said when you’re in the air, they said that because of the altitude and all that, your brain makes you think better. So she said don’t watch a movie and don’t do emails.
“Do something creative. Your creative juices are higher when you’re at a high altitude. And so she said, ‘Watch how much you get done being in the air.’ And that’s how I started writing the book.”
Kenny Smith wrote a book called Talk Of Champions: Stories Of The People Who Made Me, which was published in May of 2023. The book speaks about his experiences with the various personalities that shaped his NBA and media career, and, interestingly, this is how it came to be.
