Fresh off a 27-point masterpiece against the Kings on Tuesday, Suns star Kevin Durant took it upon himself to check a fan who proclaimed that Durant needs to be “on a better team” than the 22-18 Suns. “Now I just feel bad for him,” said the fan. “His talent is so valuable to the league. He needs to be on a better team.” Less than an hour later, Durant responded with a message that went viral on X.
“Please don’t ever feel bad for the professional basketball player who got everything he ever wanted. Somebody else needs your well wishes way more…”

It was a savage response from the former MVP, who has become a veteran at engaging with his haters online. Whether you love him or hate him, Durant seems to know just what to say against his critics and he is never shy about confronting them at any chance he gets. Of course, when you consider Durant’s history with New York City, it makes sense why the exchange with this particular fan seemed to have a hint of resentment.
Durant’s Ongoing Beef With New Yorkers
It wasn’t that long ago when Kevin Durant was considered one of the most likable stars in the league. Back when he won his MVP with the Thunder, his acceptance speech had everyone in the feels and he was known for being a highly charismatic person. But Durant’s move to the Warriors made him a villain and it changed his entire demeanor. By the time he joined the Brooklyn Nets in 2019, the guy had destroyed his reputation thanks to three years in Golden State and countless social media warfare campaigns.
Durant’s lowest point was in the 2022-23 season when he forced his way out after a failed run with Kyrie Irving. To this day, his tenure with the Nets is deemed as a failure and many fans still hold a grudge over the way he abandoned them after just two active seasons. Now, at 35, Durant is running out of time to capture one more title and prove his doubters wrong but he’s still holding out hope of making a run in Phoenix.
Rocky Start In Phoenix
The Suns are likely the last stop for Kevin Durant’s NBA career. Individually, the Suns star has been doing well enough with averages of 28.9 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 5.8 assists per game on 52.4% shooting and he’s on pace for another All-Star-worthy campaign. As a team, however, the Suns haven’t been nearly as fortunate. The team is just 8th in the West right now with a measly 12-11 record at home and many have already counted them out.
Ranked 12th in offense and 16th in defense, Phoenix has been mediocre on both ends of the floor this season and there has been very little continuity with the roster outside of Kevin Durant. For this Suns team to make any kind of noise, they need to get healthy and get some reps in as a fully healthy unit. Of course, it all relies on Kevin Durant in the end, who is still proving himself to be among one of the top players in the game. He hasn’t lost a step on the court this season and is just as motivated as ever before to carry his squad to victory.
