Kevin Durant Explained Why He Doesn’t Care About Being The Highest Scorer Of All-Time: “You Can’t Look At My Numbers And Say He’s The Greatest Scorer… I’d Rather You Watch Me Play Than Just Look At My Numbers.”

Kevin Durant is one of the most lethal shooters in the history of basketball. His touch and range despite being nearly 7 feet tall are elite and he can pull up and shoot over just about any defender assigned to guard him. So it’s no surprise that Durant is considered one of the greatest scorers of all time.

While he is a player that has led the NBA in scoring and put up an absurd number of points in his career already, Durant doesn’t think his points tally is the key reason he should be considered the greatest shooter though, telling The Athletic in 2018 that it is more about how he gets those points.

Durant: “I don’t care, man. To be honest. I used to be big on wanting to be the highest scorer to ever play. But my skills speak for themselves. You just gotta watch. You just can’t look at my numbers and say he’s the greatest scorer because of my numbers.

“You’re going to have to watch and figure out what I did to get these points and to score and to score effectively and also win at the same time. I’m more so interested in that. But I got a long time to play, hopefully, and I’m just going to keep doing what I do.

“We’ll see what happens at the end. I don’t want to put a cap on it. I just want people to watch me play, see how I create what I create. This is my form of art. I just try to express myself through it. I’d rather you watch me play than just look at my numbers.

Durant has never averaged less than 25 points per game in any of his seasons in the NBA after his rookie season. KD also became one of only 5 players to reach 20,000 points under the age of 30 alongside LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, Michael Jordan and Wilt Chamberlain. His stats will always be impressive but the man himself seems to suggest that the eye test is what proves that he could be the greatest scorer of all time.
