Kevin Durant is one of the top superstars in the league, and there’s no doubt that he’s a proven winner, having won at the highest stage with the Golden State Warriors. He has had a spectacular season this year, averaging 29.9 PPG, 7.4 RPG, and 6.4 APG for the Brooklyn Nets this season.

Despite his individual ability, Kevin Durant’s tenure with the Brooklyn Nets has not been a success thus far. A lot of that was due to factors outside of his control, though, and it is hard to blame him entirely for their failures.

Despite the fact that he signed a massive contract extension ahead of the 2021-22 season, Shams Charania has recently revealed that Kevin Durant is reportedly “considering options with his future”. That has opened “the path” for Kyrie Irving to potentially find a new team, with him opting into his player option and thus getting traded.

Sources: Kevin Durant is monitoring the Brooklyn Nets’ situation and considering options with his future.

This now opens the path for Kyrie Irving to proceed on finding a new home via opt-in and trade.

There is no doubt that this is big news. If both Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving were to leave the Brooklyn Nets, that would shake up the entire league. Both players are difference-making superstars that have won championships in the past, and a lot of teams would love to have them on their roster.

It remains to be seen if either player does end up moving. It is possible that the Brooklyn Nets will manage to figure things out and retain both of their stars. However, it seems as though there is at least a slight possibility that the stars could end up being on different teams ahead of next season. Hopefully, we see things work out for everyone involved, and we’ll see how this situation develops going forward.
