When Kevin Durant joined the Golden State Warriors, NBA fans crucified him. After all, he joined the team that knocked him out of the playoffs just a few months ago. Well, whatever the reason, he did what was best for his career at that point and earned the rewards as well.
KD became a two-time NBA champion with the Warriors, which could have been a three-peat if he wasn’t injured in the 2019 NBA Finals. It was the last time that Durant donned a Warriors jersey as he later joined the Brooklyn Nets to start the next chapter of his career.
Despite leaving the Warriors a few years ago, there is still a narrative that Durant needed the Warriors more than they need some. The narrative resurfaced yet again before the recent matchup between the Nets and the Warriors.
Prior to the game, there were of course many who took KD’s side and he liked several such tweets that spoke against the Warriors media. Thanks to the Twitter account Hoop Central for tweeting about the same, it was brought to light.

The incident took place before the Nets-Warriors game and unfortunately for Durant, he ended up on the losing side. While the narrative might not be 100% accurate losing to Stephen Curry and the Warriors wouldn’t help his case.
Additionally, the way that GSW never let Brooklyn even come close to making a comeback shouldn’t be a good feeling for KD and co. Following the defeat, Durant and James Harden reassured fans that it only gets better from here.
Regardless of this poor performance against the Warriors, the Nets are having a decent enough season altogether. They are currently third in the Eastern Conference with a record of 10-5.
However, it seems that the team is too dependent on how well KD plays. Over the last few games, he has carried the team on his with the absence of Kyrie Irving and James Harden struggling to get into form.
Durant failed to do that in the fixture against the Warriors, and the result is in front of us. Moving forward, the Nets need to find a way to share the burden and help KD, otherwise, they might be heading towards another disappointing season.
