Kyrie Irving Remains Firm On COVID-19 Vaccine Stance: “I’ve Made My Decision Already And I’m Standing On It.”

Kyrie Irving is one of the best point guards in the league, and we’ve seen him come back and play for the Brooklyn Nets recently, after the team has allowed him to be a part-time player.

Despite the Brooklyn Nets allowing Kyrie Irving to return, he still cannot play home games due to laws in the city of New York, as he is unvaccinated for COVID-19.

Kevin Durant has recently been injured, and some thought that may change Kyrie Irving’s stance on the vaccine. However, it seems as though Irving is remaining steadfast in not taking the shot.

Kyrie Irving says the Nets' injury situation won't change his vaccination status:

I think what I’m trying to better articulate that I’m not bringing science into basketball. Everyone’s feeling what’s going on into the real world. I’m walking around as an unvaccinated person, I’ve already been separated into another group of the community.

I have decisions to make, I have a family to take care of. There are things that are just as important to me as being great at the game of basketball or leaving a legacy… We’re all dealing with it, we’re all feeling it… What’s going on with me is I’m taking it one day at a time. Nothing’s guaranteed in this world right now, people are getting sick left and right… I just don’t want to bring science into it… I have made my decision already and I’m standing on it.

It remains to be seen how Kyrie Irving’s decision will affect the rest of the Brooklyn Nets’ season. Hopefully, him missing games and staying away from the team during those missed games won’t influence their play too much. At the end of the day though, when Kyrie Irving plays, he’s a difference-maker.

The Brooklyn Nets are currently the 3rd seed in the Eastern Conference, and they have a tough road ahead. Kyrie Irving, Kevin Durant, and James Harden have only played 16 out of 113 games together since they created their big 3 in Brooklyn. They need to build chemistry to succeed in the playoffs, but with their talent, it is quite possible everyone gets on the same page prior to the postseason.
