Mavericks point guard Kyrie Irving can be as frustrating as they come regarding availability and being dependable night in and night out. But when it comes to his play on the court, nobody can deny his superior talent. In fact, according to Lakers assistant coach Phil Handy, Irving may be the most skilled player we’ve ever seen in the sport.

In a chat on the ‘Certified Buckets’ podcast, Handy called Irving the most skilled baller to ever lace ’em up and lit a fire in the NBA community.

“Offensively, he is the most skilled player to ever put on basketball shoes.”

Considering how many amazing players we’ve seen across the NBA timeline, Handy’s words carry significant weight. Wildly enough, he’s not far off in his assessment.

Offensively, there’s almost nothing that Kyrie cannot do. He can score off the dribble, finish around the rim, and make players for his teammates when the going gets tough. Most impressively, however, is Kyrie’s ball-handling skills.

In this category, he’s arguably the greatest of All-Time when you consider his speed efficiency, and creativity with the ball.

Will Kyrie Irving Join The Lakers This Summer?

With Irving set for free agency this summer, it’s no surprise that teams across the association have been vying for his services. The Lakers, of course, are front and center among all interested parties and the feeling is apparently mutual.

“LeBron James wants the Lakers to replace Russell with Irving, sources told Heavy Sports. However, Los Angeles doesn’t have the cap space to sign Irving, who is looking for a max contract,” reported Ashish Mathur of Heavy Sports.

Irving would be a great addition to the Lakers, if for no other reason than he’s someone who can hit perimeter shots. Alongside LeBron and Davis, floor spacing is the key to success and Kyrie is the kind of perimeter playmaker who could make a real difference for them.

Either way, a person of Irving’s talent is going to get his money. Now, it’s only a matter of which team will be the one paying him to elevate their offense.
