Dillon Brooks might be one of the least-liked NBA players in Los Angeles after all the trash-talking he did during the Lakers vs. Grizzlies series in the last playoffs.

It didn’t end well for him, the Memphis Grizzlies let him emphatically leave in free agency. But Brooks landed on his feet, scoring a $80 million contract with the Houston Rockets. But that hasn’t stopped Los Angeles Lakers fans from trying to troll him, with a new acquisition, Taurean Prince getting in on the action too.

The tweet he liked, half seen in the above image, is a GIF of LeBron James and Anthony Davis laughing. And the butt of the joke is Dillon Brooks and his new contract, worth $80 million over four years.

Brooks had regressed last season, having averaged just 14.3 points per game on very poor efficiency for the Grizzlies. And he did not help his case by talking a lot of trash to the likes of LeBron James and then completely failing to back it up. Before he got paid by the Houston Rockets, there was speculation that he might not even get more than $12 million from any team in the league despite his elite defensive ability.

JJ Redick Is Among Those That Has Defended Dillon Brooks After He Got The Bag

Taurean Prince will endear himself quickly to the Lakers faithful with things like this, he is clearly buying into the team and their rivalries already. But Brooks has received a lot of disrespect in recent times despite being an All-Defensive player. And while it’s understandable that Lakers fans will always make fun of him, JJ Redick has defended him from the wider hate he has received

“I saw all the memes on Twitter about him needing to learn Mandarin because he was gonna play in China. The motherf***er just signed for $80 million. I’m sorry for the language but he just signed for $80 million. He’s a good player, a valuable player. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I want a Dillon Brooks on my team. I want a disruptor, I want a pest, and I want a guy that can defend at his level.”

Dillon Brooks has a lot to prove, and on a young Houston Rockets team, he will get the opportunity to reinvent himself as a player and a leader. He should aim to only talk trash after he has already backed it up, though, because any more failures on that front are bound to result in even more ridicule.
