- Lamar Odom was a huge fan of the NBA bubble
- The bubble was the space the NBA chose to have their games amid the COVID-19 pandemic
- The Lakers won the championship in 2020
Former Los Angeles Lakers star Lamar Odom loved the NBA bubble, and it wasn’t just because the franchise that he played for won a championship that season.
Responding to a throwback post on Twitter about how the Lakers pipped the Clippers in one of the games in the bubble, Odom said it was the perfect environment for highly-competitive basketball.
“The bubble came with no distractions, no shenanigans… just straight up hoops”

The two-time NBA champion wasn’t wrong. Following the rapid rise of COVID-19 across the world at the start of 2020, the NBA and other sports came to a screeching halt and only resumed in late July. The NBA restarted at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex and the teams stayed at Disney World hotels.
The playoffs began on August 17, and the NBA Finals began on September 30, with the Lakers beating the Miami Heat to win the title.
And Odom, who won both his championships with LA alongside the late Kobe Bryant, believed that the bubble was a more uber-competitive environment that bought out the best in the players.
Now, the world is back to normal, and the NBA has welcomed fans to full capacity. Safe to say some fans may have a different opinion, but that’s not to say that Odom was wrong.
Can The Los Angeles Lakers Repeat Their Bubble Championship Heroics In The 2023-24 Season?
After their stellar campaign in the 2020 NBA Finals, the Los Angeles Lakers have failed to reach the same height. They made the playoffs twice in the last three seasons.
This past season saw them make the Conference Finals, but they were swept 4-0 by the Denver Nuggets, who eventually went on to win their maiden title.
The new season will see the 2022-23 Lakers roster reunited as the franchise retained a major chunk of the players from their last season. The likes of D’Angelo Russell, Jarred Vanderbilt, Rui Hachimura, and Austin Reaves will suit up for the purple and gold alongside superstars LeBron James and Anthony Davis.
With the preseason schedule out, the Lakers unit will look to gel faster and get some much-needed game time before they begin their 2023-24 campaign, and while they do have the necessary assets to get the job done, only time will tell if they can go the distance.
