Charlotte rookie LaMelo Ball is one of the most intriguing young players in the game today. Considering his history, and family, it’s no surprise that he has been under a big spotlight since his debut this season.
So far, the young stud has slived up to the hype, and even his fellow NBA athletes (like Donovan Mitchell) are admitting as much. In a chat with the media on Sunday, Wizards coach Scott Brooks became the latest to dish out praise, calling Ball a star in the making.
“He’s extremely impressive and his future is extremely bright. He could potentially be an All-Star pretty soon,” Brooks said.
Extremely high-level passer and play-maker. Loves the game, you can just see it. Outstanding. He was raised the right way on the basketball court with how he plays. Even his brother [Lonzo], it’s the same way, they play to win.”
Interestingly, Brooks gave props to his father, LaVar, who is often the subject of widespread criticism by fans.
“You can criticize all you want about his dad and this and that. I said it a few years ago, I’m impressed in that I didn’t have a father growing up. It’s kind of nice when you have somebody. I know I wish I would have had a dad that was overly protective and involved. He’s done a great job of raising those two guys to play the right way.”
After a slow start to the season, Melo has looked pretty good for the Hornets this season. With solid handles, superb passing, and a shooter’s touch, he fits the mold of the new age point guard that has become so valuable in this league.
This season, he’s averaging 13.6 points, 6 assists, and 5.8 rebounds per game on 43.7% shooting.
And while it might be too early for him to sneak into the 2021 All-Star game, it might not be long before he makes it to that stage. He’s already got plenty of people convinced.
