  • Rich Paul said Stephen Curry winning the 2020 NBA championship in the Bubble wouldn’t have been dismissed like it is for LeBron James
  • Colin Cowherd has hit back at him for it, pointing out that Stephen Curry gets a lot more disrespect than LeBron James
  • Colin Cowherd says LeBron James has an army of fans who think he is the GOAT, but Stephen Curry doesn’t even make the Top 10 lists

Rich Paul has sparked a lot of debate about LeBron James’ legacy after an appearance on Gilbert Arenas’ podcast.

This included the powerful agent claiming that Stephen Curry winning the 2020 NBA championship in the Bubble would not be criticized like LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers winning it has been.

Colin Cowherd has hit back at that, saying, “Wait a minute. Wait a minute. We discount two of Steph Curry’s titles because KD (Kevin Durant) played on the team. We discount Steph’s first title because he didn’t win MVP and Kevin Love and Kyrie got hurt.

“Steph’s career has been discounted. He literally changed basketball at the high school, European, AAU, college basketball, NBA level. When I was a kid, it was cool to dunk. I wish I could have. Now kids would rather shoot 3s.

“He changed everything, and he’s been discounted the entire time. LeBron has an army of people that will defend him as the greatest player ever. I certainly think it’s a legitimate argument. If you include Steph in the top 10, you get pushback.”

Colin Cowherd does make some excellent points. While Stephen Curry is widely recognized as the greatest shooter of all time, he doesn’t get as much love in any of the other debates he qualifies for.

Michael Jordan Texted Stephen A. Smith To State That Magic Johnson Is Greater Than Stephen Curry

While Stephen Curry escapes criticism from time to time, he is also on the receiving end of scrutiny.

After Steph recently suggested that he has an argument to be considered the best point guard ever, the GOAT himself, Michael Jordan wrote to the media to insist that the crown belongs to Magic Johnson

Kevin Durant’s move to the Golden State Warriors also affects Stephen Curry’s legacy, with the team growing too overpowered to be fully given props for their back-to-back championships in 2017 and 2018.

Stephen Curry may receive a lot of love, especially from younger fans, but he and LeBron James are in different conversations.

So even if Curry gets less scrutiny, which he doesn’t, it’s representative of the expectations fans have from him and LeBron James respectively.

The Level Of Criticism LeBron James Faces Is Representative Of His Greatness

What LeBron James’ supporters have to accept is that someone cannot be in the GOAT debate without the highest level of scrutiny.

As Rich Paul pointed out himself, LeBron James has to live with constant comparisons with Michael Jordan. But the fact that he is in those arguments in the first place is because of the level of greatness he has achieved.

Michael Jordan is mythologized by basketball fans, he is considered the GOAT by most. For anyone to overtake him in the eyes of some fans, they will have to be perfect through and through.

Stephen Curry is the greatest shooter ever, but as Cowherd says, he’s not even an undisputed Top 10 NBA player of all time. Rich Paul suggesting the same level of scrutiny for LeBron James is missing the point entirely.
