The Golden State Warriors have won four NBA Championships with a core of Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green. But it’s getting obvious that the Dubs dynasty is starting to break up.
After Bob Myers stepped down as the general manager of the team, Green declined his $27.5 million player option for the 2023-24 NBA season with the Warriors. Many believe that the 2016-17 NBA Defensive Player of the Year winner may sign with the Los Angeles Lakers to join his friend LeBron James. The rumors caught further fire when Green and James were spotted together in France on Sunday.

Green and James share the same agent in Rich Paul of Klutch Sports. So, it won’t be a surprise if the two stars are trying to figure out a way to play together.
Despite the rumors, the new GM of the Warriors, Mike Dunleavy, wants Green to re-sign with the Warriors.
NBA Insider Expects Draymond Green To Re-Sign With The Warriors
As of now, Draymond Green is an unrestricted free agent. The 33-year-old can essentially join any team in the league. Sure, Green may no longer be in the prime of his career, but he can be a valuable addition to a championship contender like the Lakers.
Although some differences have brewed between Green and the Warriors, NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski expects the four-time champion to re-sign with the team that drafted him in 2012.
“Opting out was just for procedure,” Woj said. “It made sense to do that financially and now go back and negotiate a new deal with the Warriors. These are two sides that very much want to get a deal done. Draymond and Rich Paul are not posturing and threatening to go elsewhere, even though there are great options out there for them…”
Woj added: “I think there’s a desire on both sides to stay together, they want each other. For Draymond Green, the idea of continuing with Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, and Steve Kerr, it means the world to him. It’s just a matter of whether it’s a four-year deal or a three-year deal. I don’t sense any sense from either side that this could go sideways. I think these sides are destined to reunite.”
Green finished the 2022-23 regular season with 8.5 PPG, 7.2 RPG, and 6.8 APG. On top of that, Green also earned NBA All-Defensive second-team honors. Despite an underwhelming season by his standards, Green finished fourth in the 2023 NBA Defensive Player of the Year race.
But will Green’s friendship with LeBron dictate his future in the NBA? We will get a much better picture over the coming weeks.
