In what comes as a startling revelation, the Golden State Warriors veteran forward Draymond Green has reportedly declined his $27 million player option and is an unrestricted free agent.
The news was reported by The Athletic’s Shams Charania. “Golden State Warriors four-time NBA champion Draymond Green is declining his $27.5 million player option for the 2023-24 season and will enter unrestricted free agency, Klutch Sports CEO Rich Paul told @TheAthletic @Stadium,” the NBA insider tweeted.

This comes on the back of Marc Spears’ thoughts on NBA Today where he believed that Green was expected to opt out.
“The Warriors expect Draymond Green to opt out of the final year of his $26 million contract, I’m being told. But Joe Lacob, [Mike] Dunleavy, the Warriors are going to do everything in their power, if he does as expected, to bring him back.”
With this, the golden era of the Warriors’ big three comes to a close, although Spears did add the possibility of Golden State trying to bring him back.
Green averaged 8.5 PPG, 7.2 RPG, 6.8 APG, 1.0 SPG, and 0.8 BPG. He was particularly impressive on the defensive end and that saw him earn a spot on the All-Defensive Second Team.
The 32-year-old has been with the Warriors ever since being drafted in the second round of the 2012 NBA Draft but now, he will seek a new franchise, and safe to say, there won’t be any dearth of suitors for the veteran.
Green won four championships with Golden State, and his exit will now see the Warriors without one of their best defensive presence in the fold. He was also a larger locker room presence.
