LeBron James sent shockwaves throughout the basketball world after the Los Angeles Lakers lost Game 4 to the Denver Nuggets on Monday.

In his postgame press conference, James hinted he might retire as he stated he had a lot to think about moving forward regarding basketball. Opinions have been split on whether he’d actually walk away but NBA analyst Rob Perez has put forth a wild theory regarding LeBron’s future.

1) Retire for a year.

2) Watch Bronny at USC.

3) Recharge the body.

4) Come back in 2024.

5) Sign with whatever team drafts Bronny.

Not a bad strategy at all, to be honest. and he wouldn’t end his career getting swept. LeBron is not going to end his career getting swept, right? right?”

Perez is far from being the only individual to think of LeBron doing something along these lines, but you really don’t see it happening. It looks great on paper, as LeBron would get to watch Bronny play and a year off would ensure he is completely healed in 2024 when his son enters the league. Will he do something like this though? Most probably not. There would certainly be some complications in terms of his contract with the Lakers as well and LeBron isn’t going to go through all that. He was probably just frustrated after getting swept and will be back next season.

Another NBA Analyst Put Forth A More Plausible Theory

While you can’t see LeBron going the route Perez suggested, there is a much more plausible theory that was put forth by Kevin O’Connor. He believes LeBron wants to pressure the Lakers into acquiring Kyrie Irving and that is certainly a possibility.

It was reported in February that LeBron wanted Irving on the Lakers but earlier this month, a report indicated the team is not interested in the star guard. James might feel that threatening retirement might be the only way he gets his wish here and it could well be enough to force the Lakers into making the move.
