LeBron James has never been shy about voicing his opinions and he did it again this week to his millions of followers on X. With the U.S. Presidential election just days away, James sent out a message to the fans encouraging them to vote for Democratic candidate Kamala Harris.

“What are we even talking about here?? When I think about my kids and my family and how they will grow up, the choice is clear to me,” wrote James. “VOTE KAMALA HARRIS!”

The 2024 U.S. election is just days away and it has massive implications for the country. On one side is Donald Trump, a Republican and former President from New York who has earned a massive following for his unfiltered speech and America-first policies. On the other side is Kamala Harris, the current Vice President and top democratic candidate, whose campaign is still fresh off the rails after Joe Biden decided to drop out of the race.

The entire country is split right now and the latest polls project a close race in all the swing states. Up until now, LeBron James mostly stayed quiet about the upcoming election but it seems he felt that now was the appropriate time to speak his mind.

In the past, LeBron James has typically avoided overt political messaging like this but he has been known to speak up during crucial election cycles. In the case of Trump, James has been staunchly against his policies for years now, dating back to his first campaign in 2016. LeBron publicly endorsed Hillary Clinton at the time and even when he won the Presidency, James remained highly critical of Mr. Trump all the way through his campaign.

For LeBron and many others, Trump is far too controversial and divisive to be a good leader of the country and he’s spoken it out loud before. One time, after Trump threatened to stop watching the NBA, LeBron came back with a savage reply that challenged the former President. And when James won the championship in 2020, Trump refused to extend an invitation to the White House as he mocked the NBA’s declining viewership.

Clearly, LeBron James and Donald Trump are not friends and they likely never will be. In fact, LeBron has been actively working against Trump in order to keep him away from a second term as President. Unfortunately for James, his stance has been met with harsh critique from fans and Trump supporters, who insist that he’s making the wrong choice.

No matter how it plays out in the end, LeBron has made his opinion known and there’s no going back on it now. He’s voting blue this November just like he has for years and he’s not afraid to let the world know. With a following of 159 million people on X, LeBron’s endorsement was huge for Kamala, and don’t doubt that it might make an impact on the final results.

What it won’t affect is LeBron’s play on the court and whether Trump wins or Kamala, he’s going to come through for the Lakers just like he has in every year since his arrival.
