The Los Angeles Lakers took on the Golden State Warriors in a clash between two of the last three NBA champions on Saturday night. This was hardly a heavyweight bout though, as both teams have failed to live up to expectations this season.

Both LeBron James and Stephen Curry were out as well, but the game did end up being quite interesting, with numerous lead changes. There were also some heated moments and the Lakers eventually came out on top 109-103.

There was some concern for them early on in the game though, as Austin Reaves accidentally got elbowed in the face by Jonathan Kuminga. He was fine to carry on though but James, who was in attendance, hilariously decided to carry out a concussion test.

LeBron James: “Where you at?”

Austin Reaves: “I’m here.”

LeBron James: “What’s here?”

Austin Reaves: “San Francisco.”

They could joke about it because it thankfully wasn’t too serious. What is serious though, is LeBron’s foot injury as reports indicate he is really struggling with it. There are indications that it could linger for the rest of the season, which is quite concerning. The Lakers will find it difficult to stay afloat if he misses a significant amount of time and it is situations like these, where having Kyrie Irving might have helped.

The Lakers Did Not Want To Include Austin Reaves In A Trade Package For Kyrie Irving

When Kyrie handed in his trade request to the Brooklyn Nets, many immediately assumed he would end up on the Lakers. It wasn’t to be in the end, with the Mavericks landing Irving. Reports indicate that the Nets did not want to send Kyrie to the Lakers, as that was his preferred destination, and they were asking for an awful lot in return.

The Nets wanted young players like Reaves but the Lakers weren’t interested in including him or Max Christie in a potential package. It is quite a show of faith in these two by the Lakers and they have shown flashes of brilliance at times.
