LeBron James May Have Gone To Germany For Plasma Treatment Like Kobe Bryant Did In 2013

After swallowing a loss to the Mavericks on Friday, it became very clear that the Lakers are not going to get far without LeBron James.

But with rumors indicating a very serious foot injury, it appears that King James is going to great lengths to heal as fast as possible — and rightfully so.

According to one rumor, part of LeBron’s return strategy may have included a trip to Germany for a special kind of injection called PRP therapy, much like Kobe Bryant did for his knee in 2013.

“Per an NBA Source, it’s possible that Lakers’ F LeBron James went to Germany to receive PRP treatment [Platelet-Rich Plasma Therapy], but that procedure can now be performed in the US,” wrote Landon Buford. “According to Dennis Schroder [via @mcten], James is doing three sessions a day to try to get back on the court.”

Rumor: LeBron James may have gotten plasma treatment in Germany to treat his latest injury, the same one that Kobe got in 2013.

PRP therapy isn’t too widely used by players today, and it’s not yet become mainstream. But Kobe Bryant frequently used the method and was confident in the results.

It’s anyone’s guess what type of impact it will have on LeBron’s body, but it’s obvious now that he’s desperate to return and is willing to try almost anything if it means shortening his absence from the team.

How Long Can Lakers Survive Without LeBron?

After a series of trades and signings at the deadline, the Lakers have a much-improved roster that LeBron knows he can work with. The problem is, their struggles early in the season continue to weigh them down and those piles of losses have turned into a major burden.

With James sidelined indefinitely, likely for most of the remaining regular season, it falls on Anthony Davis to carry the Lakers and keep their playoff hopes alive until James can return.

“See, he’s still top-10, he’s still a great player,” Shaq said on Davis. “But I’m talking status-wise. I remember when we were saying, ‘yo, he’s the best player in the league.’ No excuses in this league. Don’t matter why you fell off. You still fell off. Everything’s up to AD. Even when LeBron’s back, it’s all up to AD.”

It will be interesting to see if AD is up for the challenge of leading the Lakers by himself, but they’ve been heading in the wrong direction lately with two straight losses in very winnable games.
