LeBron James On The Race For The Final Western Conference Playoff Spot: “There’s Too Much That Can Happen”

2 Min Read

LeBron James and the L.A. Lakers are projected to make a long run this postseason. But when it comes to their opponents, nobody really knows who they will face, especially in the first round.

The Blazers, Grizzlies, Pelicans, and Suns are all competing for that final spot out West. And you best believe some teams on that list will pose a more serious threat to the Lakeshow than others.

With this in mind, The Athletic’s Joe Vardon tried to get a sense for LeBron’s feelings about it going in, but he doesn’t seem very concerned at all.

“I’m not paying attention to what’s going on with the eighth seed right now, there’s too much that can happen,” said LeBron, via Joe Vardon. “And then there’s play-in games to decide that, so it’s too far away right now.”

In James’ mind, there’s no point thinking about a potential first-round matchup when there are still so many moving parts. Each team needs to be played different and each will present their own unique set of challenges.

Until a team has secured their place into that final playoff spot, James is just going to keep his focus inward, preparing himself and his squad for anything and everything these next few weeks might throw at them.

It’s tough to fault James for that mentality, especially when you consider all that he has already seen and done.
