The 2022-23 Los Angeles Lakers are full of players who do not have a lot of experience in the playoffs. Despite that, the Lakers registered an easy Game 1 win over the Memphis Grizzlies.

Austin Reaves and Rui Hachimura were the heroes of the victory as LeBron James and Anthony Davis took the backseat during the fourth quarter. After the game, James talked about how valuable it was to take a 1-0 lead in the series for the young players on the roster.

“It’s good to get a game under the belt to know what postseason is all about,” James said. “Even if you have played just one series or whatever just to get back into the flow of things. I think that’s very key for our young guys. AR’s [Austin Reaves] first playoff game. So it’s good to get that under his belt. …  But we need to be a lot better in Game 2.”

While LeBron James believes getting the first victory in the postseason is always special, his focus remains on the next game of the series.

The Lakers may have registered a 128-112 victory over the Grizzlies, but it came behind a monster fourth-quarter performance. That may not happen in every game, so obviously, the Lakers need to improve in a couple of departments.

LeBron James On The Competition In The Western Conference This Season

LeBron James is the most experienced player on the Lakers roster right now. In year 20 of his career, James has seen everything in the playoffs that helps him in foreseeing teams’ path to the NBA Finals.

James recently did so when he was asked if the Western Conference is wide open this year.

“I think it’s 16 teams in the postseason, and there’s opportunity for all 16.”

In simple terms, LeBron means that all eight teams in the West have an opportunity to represent the conference in the NBA Finals.

Evidently, the Lakers are in the mix as well. They have started things off on the right note by winning Game 1 vs. the Grizzlies. But can they continue to dominate Ja Morant and Co.? We will find out soon.
