LeBron James Could Play With Bronny And Bryce If He Stays In The NBA Until 2026-27 Season

LeBron James could end up being teammates with both Bronny and Bryce James.

With the Los Angeles Lakers selecting Bronny James with the 55th pick of the 2024 NBA Draft, LeBron James looks set to play alongside his eldest son in the 2024-25 season. As if that wasn’t incredible in itself, there is also a chance that LeBron plays with his youngest son Bryce James.

LeBron’s future is still a little bit unclear, at this point, as he is expected to opt out of his player option worth $51.4 million for the 2024-25 season with the Lakers and become an unrestricted free agent. It is widely believed, though, that the 39-year-old will re-sign with the franchise.

The Lakers are reportedly willing to offer LeBron a three-year, $160 million deal, which would keep him on the team through the 2026-27 season. If the 20-time All-Star plays until that campaign, he could potentially be teammates with Bryce.

Bryce just wrapped up his junior season at Sierra Canyon this year and the earliest he could enter the league would be in the 2026 NBA Draft. The 17-year-old is currently not ranked in the top 100 in ESPN’s ranking of the 2025 class, but we saw with Bronny, that a member of the James household not being an elite prospect wouldn’t stop the Lakers from picking him.

Reportedly, LeBron also wants to play for 2-3 more years and those plans might only change if the Lakers aren’t in a position to compete for a championship. If there is a chance he can play with both of his sons, I think he will carry on, even if the team isn’t great.

LeBron averaged 25.7 points, 7.3 rebounds, 8.3 assists, 1.3 steals, and 0.5 blocks per game in his 21st season in the NBA in 2023-24. It is clear there is gas left in the tank and as long as he doesn’t suffer a serious injury, I think he could very well play for another three years.

Savannah James’ Message To LeBron James

If you’re wondering how LeBron’s wife Savannah James might react to her husband continuing to play for that long, it doesn’t appear as if she would have any issue with it. Last year, Savannah had an interesting message for LeBron in a Beats commercial.

“Tell them you’re not done until you play with your son [Bronny]. Then do that, again [with Bryce].”

We have seen athletes walk away from the game due to pressure being put on them by their spouses but Savannah instead seems to be encouraging LeBron to carry on. The support that he has received from her and the rest of his family is a big reason why he has been able to continue playing for this long.

Now, LeBron and Bronny being the first father-son duo to play together would be quite special, but if Bryce gets to play with them too, then it would be simply astonishing. While I don’t want to take anything away from the two teenagers, this is a testament to their father’s greatness.

LeBron is set to tie Vince Carter’s record of 22 seasons played in the NBA in 2024-25. Carter was a shell of his former self by his last season while James is still performing at a very high level. It should really not be possible for someone to be this good with all that wear and tear on their body but LeBron has shown over the years that he is an exception to the norm.
