Just when it seemed like the Los Angeles Lakers were trending in the right direction after a big win over the Denver Nuggets, disaster struck once again. Star big man Anthony Davis had to exit that game at halftime as he suffered a foot injury, but the initial indication was that the injury wasn’t serious.
Unfortunately for the Lakers, it turned out to be quite serious, and AD is set to miss at least a month, which is a massive blow for the team. Davis had been the biggest reason why the Lakers had somewhat steadied the ship after their horrific start and to lose him for such a long period of time is a real shame. Their first game without AD was against the Washington Wizards, and while the Wizards gave them a run for their money, the Lakers won 119-117, largely thanks to LeBron James, who put up 33 points, 9 assists, and 7 rebounds. LeBron was delighted with the result and took to Instagram to send a message to the fans.
“That Was Fun!! “
It is crazy to think that not too long back, there was talk of LeBron being washed after some of his early season struggles. He has proven time and time again that you don’t count him out, and the Lakers will need him to put in more performances like this if they are to stay afloat in AD’s absence.
Can The Lakers Keep This Up In AD’s Absence?
While they deserve credit for this win with Anthony Davis being out, the Wizards have been a total mess in recent times. This loss to the Lakers was their 10th straight defeat, and there are much tougher challenges up ahead for L.A.
They face the Suns and the Kings, two of the top five seeds in the Western Conference, in their next two games, and it will take a lot to get a win over either of those two teams. It doesn’t seem like the front office has a lot of faith in them, though, with NBA insider Marc Stein saying that their trade plans have changed after learning the extent of AD’s injury. That definitely isn’t something that LeBron or Lakers fans would want to hear, though, but it gives the top brass an excuse to keep those two first-round draft picks that they have desperately been trying to hold on to.
