Bronny James made his NCAA debut in a 79-84 loss to Long Beach State, overcoming a summer cardiac arrest to return to the court. LeBron James was in attendance to watch his son and shared a heartfelt message for him on Instagram after the game.

“Can’t even tell y’all how EMOTIONAL today was for me! I’m literally drained and all I can say is @bronny you’re simply INCREDIBLE!! Damn, the wins and losses that will occur. You’ve already won the ultimate goal/championship and that’s LIFE!!! Proud of you kid and today you’ve given me more life! Thank you and I love you.”

Bronny didn’t have a star performance in the game, dropping four points, two assists, two steals, and one block as the Trojans lost in an upset OT performance. Poor free throw shooting haunted the entire team, with Bronny also missing a shot from the line. His first bucket was a three-pointer, showing his shooting ability could be a valuable tool as he looks to make it to the NBA.

Bronny played just 16 minutes and came off the bench. It’ll be interesting to see whether Bronny can break into the USC starting lineup sometime soon, but he’ll want that to make his NBA dream more likely. He was a projected first-round pick and needs to produce on the court to maintain that status.

Bronny James 2024 NBA Draft Stock

Bronny James is one of the hardest players to try and predict where he could end up in the 2024 NBA Draft. Before his cardiac arrest, James was considered a first-round pick who could go as high as the lottery but also as low as the end of the first round. Unfortunately, he isn’t currently listed in many major mock drafts at all, primarily due to the uncertainty around his health up until tonight.

Bronny will hope to try and get his value back up to being a first-round pick in the Draft, as he still could turn into a very useful NBA player. It’s unlikely he will make it to the league as a star, preferably being a role-player with his strong 3-and-D ability. It’s highly unlikely we see Bronny in the lottery unless a team takes a swing on him with the hope of enticing LeBron to join them in the summer as a free agent

LeBron could be a free agent next season if he opts out of the player option on his contract, leaving him available to go to any team in the NBA. That’s worrying for the Lakers, as it could lead to a team drafting Bronny ahead of his projections just to see if LeBron would follow him to spend a season or two playing alongside his son.

They may end up being a package deal, which will greatly boost Bronny’s value in the draft. If getting Bronny means also getting LeBron for a season or two, contenders around the NBA will have their eyes peeled on making this happen to get the most marketable duo in the NBA next season in their team’s colors.
