LeBron James took to X to share some praise for former Lakers star Nick Van Exel. Van Exel posted in excitement after Bronny James was revealed to be wearing number 9 with the Lakers, his old number with them. Van Exel showed support to Bronny James for taking his number.

LeBron saw a post highlighting this and praised Van Exel for being an incredible player during his time.

“That’s so TOUGH!! Nick the Quick was SO COLD!!!!!”

It was a wholesome interaction between two legends of the game. Van Exel played for the Lakers for five years and was even named an All-Star in 1998, alongside Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O’Neal. However, an alleged falling out with Shaquille O’Neal led to him leaving the Lakers that very same year. Despite the early exit, Van Exel really values his time with the Lakers.

Bronny James will be hoping to find similar success to Van Exel with the Lakers. However, most expect him to start with the Lakers’ G League team, as he is still a very raw and undeveloped prospect. One draft expert recently pointed out his strengths and weaknesses as he enters the NBA, and there are some definite weaknesses in his game that need to be ironed out.

However, there is little doubt that we will see Bronny play some minutes with the Lakers this season. Fans are excited about the prospect of seeing Bronny play with LeBron James, as they will be the first father-son duo to play together in the NBA.

Paul George Excited To See Bronny And LeBron James Play Together

Paul George spoke recently on his podcast about seeing Bronny and LeBron James playing together. He noted that the fans at the Crypto.com Arena will go crazy when Bronny sets his father up for an alley-oop, before praising Bronny as a prospect in the NBA, and the potential he has to be a success.

“I don’t know how soon JJ Redick is going to throw Bronny out there. But it’ll be cool to see. Just imagine, that Bronny throws a lob to LeBron. LA is going to go crazy… It’s just the dynamic of that. Bronny (is) going to be on a little fast break, Bron is trying to chase it down… I think so. I’m a fan of Bronny. I think he has NBA potential for sure.”

Bronny James had quite an emotional reaction when he was selected with the 55th overall pick by the Lakers. Even LeBron James was reported to have gotten emotional about the ordeal. It was a big moment for the James family, and perhaps we could see another big moment in the next few years.

If LeBron James plays till the 2026-27 NBA season, there is a chance that we can see him play not just with Bronny, but also with his younger son Bryce. That may be a little harder, as Bryce is expected to be a top prospect in the 2026 NBA Draft. But the thought of seeing LeBron play with both his sons in the NBA is tantalizing for many fans.
