LeBron James took to Twitter to share his thoughts on the tragic death of Tyre Nichols. The Los Angeles Lakers superstar joined the list of athletes and teams expressing their sorrow following the death of the 29-year-old African American.

Nichols passed away on January 10 after spending a few days in the hospital after his controversial encounter with the police during a routine traffic stop.

James has been vocal about sharing his about social injustice and this time reacted to a thread from American activist Brittany Packnett Cunningham. In addition to being a superstar in his own right, James has also garnered immense respect for his awareness of social issues.

Nichols is the latest victim in an exhaustive list of African-American individuals who lost their lives to police brutality. Recently, footage from the body camera and traffic surveillance videos of the arrest was made public causing outrage on social media.


The NBA Released A Statement After The Images The Were Revealed

The shockwaves of Tyre Nichols’ death shook the NBA as well. The league wasted no time in putting out a statement saying it was committed to helping the necessary parties resolve the recurrent issue.

The NBPA joined in as well adding that the players mourn Nichols and hoped that his family would have strength during the tough time.

The images of Tyre Nichols’ life needlessly cut short are horrifying. While there have been steps toward accountability in this instance, the NBA family remains committed to partnering with advocates, policymakers and law enforcement to work toward solutions to the issues we continue to face. Our thoughts are with the family and friends of Mr. Nichols, the entire Memphis community and those who are affected by these tragic images and loss.

Following the horrific incident, the five police officers involved have been fired and are charged with second-degree murder.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Nichols’ family and friends during this tumultuous period.
