February 7, 2023, might go down in history as one of the most significant days in basketball. LeBron James enters tonight’s game against the Oklahoma City Thunder requiring just 36 more points to equal Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s all-time scoring record.
There is a lot of hype for this game, as evidenced by the incredible ticket prices that saw some fans fork out $90,000+ for a seat at the historic game. Scoring 36 won’t be easy, but it seems the media expects him to pull the feat off tonight.
James has flown his mother and friends out to watch him break the record, with plenty of notable names in the crowd tonight. However, no name is more notable than James himself, as he was surrounded by media in the locker room prior to the game.

It has also been revealed that the Lakers have credentialed over 200 reporters for this game, something they usually do only towards the latter end of a playoff run.
Should LeBron James Break The Record Tonight?
LeBron James will score as many points as he needs to help give his team a fighting chance in this matchup. Given the OKC Thunder are ahead of the Lakers in the standings, there is a lot of motivation in LA to excel tonight and ensure they can walk out with a win to keep their playoff hopes alive.
It’d be a better story if James broke it in the next game against the Milwaukee Bucks, as Kareem was drafted by the Bucks and only played for them and the Lakers in his entire career. However, history waits for no man and it doesn’t seem like LeBron will be trying to push his history-making moment by another game unless the Thunder actually lock him up.
