LeBron James as an individual has surpassed even the wildest expectations anyone could have had of him when he came into the league. He finally crossed Kareem Abdul-Jabbar on the NBA’s all-time scoring list and cemented himself even further as one of the greatest to ever do it.

But while individual accolades are very important, they don’t matter nearly as much as the main goal, winning games and championships. LeBron James is no stranger to either, he has been to the NBA Finals 10 times and won 4 rings and Finals MVPs, but there is a curious stat that’s been following him around.

Making his way up the all-time scoring list has involved passing some of the greatest players to ever play the game. Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, Karl Malone, and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar are the last 4 players he passed to take the No. 1 spot, and all the games in which he achieved this milestone has one conspicuous issue with them.

LeBron James Lost Many Of The Games In Which He Achieved Major Scoring Milestones

LeBron James crossed Michael Jordan on the all-time scoring list in a game against the Denver Nuggets in 2019. This was a massive moment for him, but the team lost to the Nuggets in that game.

Next on the list was Kobe Bryant, who LeBron James passed was Kobe Bryant. It was also 3 years ago, and it came in a game against the Philadelphia 76ers that the Lakers also lost handily.

And less than a year ago, LeBron crossed Karl Malone to claim second place on the list. This, too, came in a loss against the Washington Wizards.

Making records and reaching milestones is important; it’s how the quality of a player is measured by many, but in a team sport, it’s all about winning. When LeBron James crossed Kareem Abdul-Jabbar on Tuesday, he again failed to lead his team to a win, which has to count against him a little.

None of this is to say that LeBron’s greatness should be discounted or not taken seriously. What he has achieved is historic and should be celebrated as such. But there can be no denying that the only thing now more important for his legacy is winning, and that’s what the Lakers need to start doing more of.
