WNBA legend Lisa Leslie shared a lovely message for Kevin Durant after he broke her record for the most points scored for Team USA at the Olympics. Leslie congratulated Durant on the achievement, and praised his dedication to the sport and their country, before encouraging him to bring the gold medal home at the Olympics.

“Congratulations Kevin Durant, I’m honored to have you break my Team USA Olympic record!!! Our dedication to our country is evident and etched in stone!! Now go get another Gold medal, my friend! One Team, One Goal, Gold! Go USA!”

As mentioned before, Lisa Leslie previously held the record for the most points scored for Team USA at the Olympics, with 488 points. After Kevin Durant’s outing against Brazil, he surpassed her, now sitting at 494 points with Team USA. While Durant may have set the record, his final points total will only be determined after the Olympics are over.

Durant had a decent contribution for Team USA off the bench against Brazil earlier today. He put up 11 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, and 1 steal as Team USA would trounce Brazil 122-87 to win and advance to the semi-finals against Serbia. Durant will be one of the key players for Team USA in their quest for the gold medal.

Durant has the chance to cement himself as the most successful men’s Olympic player in Team USA history with a gold medal win. A win in Paris would give Durant four gold medals in his career, a feat no other Team USA player can lay claim to. Draymond Green recently called KD, LeBron, and Carmelo Anthony the GOATs of Team USA.

Durant Still Coming Off The Bench For Team USA

Despite putting on some great performances since the Olympics started, Kevin Durant is expected to continue the tournament by coming off the bench. Head coach Steve Kerr confirmed that he plans to call upon KD when trying to rotate his starting lineup during the game.

Given Durant’s performances, one could reasonably make the argument for him as a starter. But Steve Kerr wants his efficient scoring and shooting off the bench rather than in the starting lineup. In a way, it makes sense as Durant is coming off a slight injury that kept him out of the squad during the showcase games before the Olympics.

Team USA are heavy favorites to win the gold medal at the Olympics, with them boasting the best roster from a star and depth perspective. Charles Barkley even joked that the players shouldn’t be allowed to come back to America if they don’t win the gold medal.

With their next game against Serbia, Team USA will be confident, having beaten Serbia during the showcase games, and the group stage opener last week. But they cannot afford to get complacent, as it could cost them and allow Nikola Jokic and co. to cause a massive upset. A gold medal win for Team USA would be their fifth consecutive since 2008.
