Lonzo Ball On Zion Williamson: ‘Z’s A Different Type Of Talent. I’ve Never Really Played With A Guy Like Him Before.’

The New Orleans Pelicans didn’t really mourn Anthony Davis’ departure. As a matter of fact, some may argue they’re now a better, more competitive team with more chances to thrive in the future than they were before.

As we all know by now, the Anthony Davis trade got them Brandon Ingram, Lonzo Ball, and Josh Hart, plus three-first round picks. Also, the Pelicans won the Draft lottery and wrapped their hands around Zion Williamson, the most hyped prospect in the league since LeBron James.

Needless to say, hopes were high at the Smoothie King Center entering the season and while things didn’t unfold the way they expected due to Zion’s early struggles with injuries, it’s clear that they have something special going on.

For instance, Lonzo Ball and Zion Williamson have developed an instant rapport on and off the court, as you can tell by their full-court lobs that make the highlight reels night in and night out.

So, Ball joined JJ Redick’s podcast to talk about some interesting topics, including his chemistry with their 1st overall pick, which he called ‘a different type of talent”:

“Nah, it’s really just natural. Z’s a different type of talent. I’ve never really played with a guy like him before. Like I said, he complements my game tremendously, and I’m just happy to be with him,” Ball told Redick.

Lonzo’s career didn’t get to the best of starts in Los Angeles, perhaps due to the burden that came with being the 2nd overall pick and the Lakers’ new hope to go back to contention. Now, he’s looked rejuvenated and eager to prove all of his doubters wrong.

As for Zion, he’d be a lock to win the Rookie of the Year award unanimously if it wasn’t for the fact that he missed most of the season with an injury. Thus far, he’s averaging 23.6 points and 6.8 rebounds on 59% shooting and it looks like he’s going to be a huge problem for opposing defenses for many years to come.
