During the last few years of Kobe Bryant’s time with the Los Angeles Lakers, it was clear that the team was heading towards an eventual rebuilding phase. The Lakers were losing a lot of games and saw a huge dip in their number of wins during the regular season.
Following Kobe’s retirement in 2016, the franchise started from scratch. But who would have thought just two years after Bryant’s retirement, the Lakers would sign LeBron James?
In 2018, James’ arrival to the Lakers gave a surge of confidence to the fanbase. They believed that the team would once again win NBA titles and stay competitive. On top of that, the organization also landed Anthony Davis via a blockbuster trade.
That decision opened the championship opportunity for the team to win the NBA title in 2020. As expected, the Lakers did just that, winning the NBA Championship led by LeBron James and Anthony Davis.
However, two years post that championship run, the Lakers’ roster looks completely different.

Winning an NBA title usually means that the organization has found some great players, and they’ll keep them competitive for the foreseeable future. In the Lakers’ case, that hasn’t been the case.
If anything, the Lakers have broken up their championship-winning roster in less than two years. An NBA page on Instagram recently pointed that out.

While it’s not uncommon to see championship rosters getting broken up, it’s how fast the Lakers’ team has broken up that has surprised fans. Additionally, when this happens, most times, apart from the superstars, organizations tend to keep at least one or two players from the supporting cast on the team to build from scratch.

Hopefully, they can make a stunning comeback next season, and if they win the title, they will not break up the team this soon again.
