The Los Angeles Lakers acquired several players around the NBA trade deadline. The newly added list of players included Jarred Vanderbilt.
Initially, Vanderbilt wasn’t looked at as such a huge addition to the roster since the focus was on other players. But since becoming a member of the Purple and Gold, Vanderbilt has become an anchor on the defensive end of the floor for the Lakers.
So much so that Vanderbilt has helped the Lakers become the number-one ranked team in the league’s defensive rating over the last 10 games. According to NBA.com, the Lakers have had a defensive rating of 107.6 since Vanderbilt started playing for the team.
Jarred Vanderbilt showcased his defensive ability when he was given the tough job of defending Luka Doncic during the Lakers’ matchup against the Dallas Mavericks. Vanderbilt did such a great job that he received praise from both LeBron James and Anthony Davis for his defense on Luka.
All things considered, the Lakers have found a gem of a defensive player in Jarred Vanderbilt, and hopefully, they will not let him go even beyond the 2022-23 NBA season.
The Los Angeles Lakers Are Finally In The Play-In Tournament Spot
The Los Angeles Lakers struggled all season to win games consistently. Fortunately, that issue has seemingly been resolved since the NBA All-Star break. The Lakers are consistently winning games and have climbed up the ranks in the Western Conference.
Following the crucial win against the Memphis Grizzlies, the Lakers are now the 9th seed in the West. If they can continue playing at this level for the remainder of the season, they have a realistic shot at clinching a permanent spot in the playoffs.
Once the Lakers qualify for the playoffs and get LeBron James back, they may be the best dark horse candidate in the West to represent the conference in the 2023 NBA Finals. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves just yet.
