The Los Angeles Lakers have reportedly made up their mind about D’Angelo Russell’s future with the team. After a solid start to his second tenure with the team, the point guard’s level decreased, failing to make an impact when LeBron James and Anthony Davis weren’t at their best.

Following the Denver Nuggets series, rumors started surfacing about Russell’s future with the team. According to Dave McMenamin of ESPN, the Lakers aren’t pursuing the max extension for Russell, which could make nearly $70 million in two years.

“Russell is eligible to sign a two-year, $67.5 million extension by June 30, which the Lakers will not pursue at the max number, sources familiar with the situation told ESPN.”

The player hinted that this could happen after the Nuggets series was over. Denver totally dominated him, so much so that he lost the starting spot in Game 4 prior to the Lakers getting swept by the No. 1 seed in the West.

After that game, more rumors kept coming, including one suggesting LeBron James isn’t a fan of Russell. Another one claims that James wants to take a lesser role on the Lakers, and the team will pursue another top scorer this summer, with Kyrie Irving and Trae Young looking like good candidates for the Purple and Gold.

LeBron James Is Reportedly Not Fond Of D’Angelo Russell

LeBron James’ voice is important within the organization, and if he doesn’t think D’Lo is the right guy for the future, the team will have to look for options in the market. Kyrie Irving appears to be the favorite to land in Los Angeles this offseason, but the point guard has made it clear he’s not in a rush to make his decision.

The Lakers have some questions to answer this offseason, and right now, the biggest one involves Russell. He appeared to be the solution to the Russell Westbrook problems, but after his underwhelming performances against the Nuggets, the team might be better off moving on from him.
