Luka Doncic can immortalize his basketball legacy in the 2024 NBA Finals if he can lead the Dallas Mavericks to a championship win. Despite suffering from multiple injuries, Doncic has brought the Mavs this far and put up numbers that nobody in the league can match.

He’s leading eight major statistical categories for the 2024 Playoffs, according to Basketball Reference.

Points: 489 (28.8 per game)

Rebounds: 164 (9.6 per game)

Assists: 150 (8.8 per game)

Steals: 28 (1.6 per game)

3-pointers: 57 (3.4 per game)

Field goals made: 166 (9.8 per game)

Free throws: 100 (5.9 per game)

Minutes: 705 (41.5 per game)

Doncic is averaging 28.8 points, 9.6 rebounds, and 8.8 assists through the Playoffs so far. His all-around control of the game lends itself well to pure statistical domination, especially with the Mavericks having played the most Playoff games of any team this season.

Nikola Jokic had displayed similar statistical dominance en route to his titles last season. Doncic can join a statistical club where LeBron James is the only member, leading the postseason in points, rebounds, assists, and steals. LeBron has done it four times in the past while Luka is hoping to have his first.

Suppose Doncic continues defying expectations and leads the underdog Mavericks to win the Larry O’Brien trophy. In that case, his playoff run will be remembered as among the greatest in NBA history while cementing his status as the best player in the world right now.

Luka Doncic Can Amass The Greatest Resume For A 25-Year-Old NBA Player

Nobody forgets that Doncic came into the NBA with an elite European basketball pedigree, but not everyone is aware of the extent to which he dominated before turning 18 years old. Luka has won everything he could in Europe, from league titles in Spain to European titles like the EuroLeague while outproducing adult professionals.

He’s been an integral part of the Slovenian national basketball team’s Golden Generation, leading them to an unexpected EuroBasket 2017 win with Goran Dragic before shocking everyone and leading his national team to the Medal rounds of the 2020 Olympics.

Even though Doncic hasn’t won an NBA title since entering the NBA in 2018, his dominance in all other aspects of the league is historic. Through six seasons in the NBA, Doncic has five All-NBA First Teams. That’s more than the career totals of former MVPs such as James Harden, Russell Westbrook, and Stephen Curry.

He already has a scoring title under his belt and a near-50-game Playoff sample size to justify his position as the second-highest PPG scorer in NBA Playoff history. This is a title he’s held unofficially since his first appearance in 2020, but now there is a large sample size of games that proves this value.

If the Mavericks win a title and Doncic is crowned Finals MVP, it’s impossible to argue against Doncic having the greatest resume for a 25-year-old basketball player that we have ever seen. Outside winning the NBA league MVP, not many goals will be left for Doncic to pursue provided the Mavericks can beat the heavily favored Celtics in the Finals.
