The Dallas Mavericks made things worse this season following some drastic roster changes vs. the Chicago Bulls.

The Mavericks played a crucial game, with Luka Doncic featuring in just 13 minutes while Kyrie Irving and the rest of the starters sat out. Even Doncic didn’t like the decision by the Mavs, as they still had a chance to clinch a play-in tournament spot at the time.

“I didn’t like it. That’s it.”

Doncic didn’t give a huge explanation for his thoughts on getting shut down for the season. But he doesn’t look happy with it.

Moreover, there is a chance that the Mavericks can get into some serious trouble for sitting out their starters against the Bulls. After all, the NBA has launched an investigation to find out the motivation behind resting the star players.

If it turns out the franchise rested its players to have a better shot at landing a higher pick in the 2023 NBA Draft, the Mavs will get penalized for it.

Luka Doncic Denies Reports About His Departure From The Mavericks

Considering the Mavericks finished the 2022-23 NBA season as the 11th seed in the West after making it to the conference finals last season, it has left many wondering if Doncic will finally demand a trade from the team.

Doncic recently denied all rumors about his future with the Mavericks being in jeopardy in the final postgame interview of the regular season.

“I saw the report. I don’t know who, but somebody said that I was going to request a trade. It was funny because I didn’t know that was true. I didn’t say it. I’m happy here. There’s nothing to worry [about].”

ESPN reported that the Mavericks fear Doncic is double-minded about his future with the team. Hence, there is a possibility that he could ask for a trade in 2024.

But as of now, Luka has denied the report. Either way, next season is extremely crucial for the Mavericks. Doncic may want to be a member of the organization right now, but it could change if the team fails to impress in the 2023-24 NBA season.
