• Luka Doncic and various other players in Japan ahead of the FIBA World Cup got a scary alert at 4:00 AM

• Japanese authorities warned residents in Okinawa that a North Korean missile was active from 3:54 AM to 4:07 AM

• Nobody was harmed but Doncic seemed pretty shocked at the situation

As national teams prepare for the 2023 FIBA World Cup, teams staying in Okinawa, Japan were in for a rude awakening at 4:00 AM, as a Japanese missile warning went out to everyone. This included the Slovenian national team with captain Luka Doncic, who opened up on how it felt to receive the alert.

“Oh yeah, the alarm was crazy. I mean, I just saw missiles. It’s coming. Missile, it’s coming. So I was a little scared.”

Japanese authorities have confirmed what had happened, as the alert was triggered due to the launch of a satellite by the neighboring North Korea.

“Due to the launch of a satellite by North Korea, the Japanese Government sent two alarms via the ‘J-Alert system’ on all cell phones in Okinawa early this morning. The first was sent at 3:54 a.m. and the second at 4:07 a.m., clearing the alarm.”

Eight countries are playing their group-stage games in Okinaway, so players from all those countries would have been affected as well. This includes Australia, Germany, Japan, Finland, Cape Verde, Georgia, and Venezuela.

Luka Doncic Hoping To Bring A Miracle To Slovenia

The Slovenian national team is considered a top-10 team in the FIBA World Cup purely because they employ Doncic. The team has no other NBA players, with Goran Dragic retiring from the national team and Nuggets’ champion Vlatko Cancar dealing with an injury.

Doncic single-handedly led Slovenia to the Bronze medal game at the 2020 Olympics, a staggering accomplishment for a country with a population of under two million. While Slovenia’s group is relatively simple with Cape Verde, Georgia, and Venezuela, they’ll not want anything less than a deep run in the tournament. Doncic has already expressed his desire to defy the odds and win the tournament

The 2017 EuroBasket champions will start their World Cup campaign on 26 August against Venezuela.
