The Boston Celtics had a tough offseason after their championship bid ended in the NBA Finals at the hands of the Golden State Warriors. They spent most of the offseason trying to acquire Kevin Durant from Brooklyn, with word leaking that Jaylen Brown would be the centerpiece of Boston’s package for KD.

Brown expressed his disappointment at being included in the rumors for the KD situation, something that ended with KD staying put and Brown having to go play for a team that he knows tried trading him away. This could make for an odd locker room dynamic, especially after the stellar playoff run that the Celtics had with Brown being one of their most consistent performers.

The one move that Boston did make for their roster was a great one, as they acquired Malcolm Brogdon from Indiana to be the certified playmaker on the team after their struggles last playoffs in creating looks. Brogdon has revealed Brown’s headspace heading into the 2022-23 season in a Celtics uniform.

“Like any human being, sometimes you want to be checked on to see how you’re doing, but that’s all I did with him. Jaylen’s a confident guy and he understands this is part of the business as well. So he’s a pro. He’s going to come back ready for training camp and ready to work.” (h/t Boston Globe)

If Brown is raring and ready to go for next season, the league should be worried about the Celtics. Brogdon is an excellent addition to their roster, with the only question around him being his inconsistent health.

If the Celtics can carry on from last season and don’t have any major disruptions, they could be considered the favorite coming out of the East. Their roster is extremely talented and versatile while still being young enough to keep growing. Veterans like Al Horford help bring these players further along and hopefully, will lead to great development over the offseason for the likes of Jayson Tatum, Grant Williams, Robert Williams, and more.
